The leader who could heighten that fear kept order and, not coincidentally, kept himself in power. If you disobeyed, you were hit with guilt for endangering the collective, followed by the ultimate punishment of expulsion.
Fast-forward through the centuries, and the tigers vanished, but the mechanism simply scaled up.
Roman emperors claimed divine right, and monotheism took the stakes higher still by introducing infinite punishment for finite doubt. Fear was no longer just spiritual; it was steel, fire, and blood for anyone whose thoughts strayed from the approved script.
📺 The Gospel of Perpetual Crisis
We tell ourselves we are far too sophisticated for public burnings today. Yet the role of the high priest has merely changed costumes.
Today, that authority belongs to politicians and television anchors who preach a gospel of perpetual crisis. Every hour brings a new existential threat—from pandemics to climate collapse—and every proposed “solution” demands the exact same things from the colony:
- More obedience to the sanctioned narrative.
